Cong. Wilbert Lee Stresses Farmer Support as Inflation Solution at Kapihan sa QC

November 7, 2024 Cong. Wilbert Lee Stresses Farmer Support as Inflation Solution at Kapihan sa QC At the Kapihan sa QC forum, Rep. Wilbert Manoy “Wise” Lee highlighted how crucial farmer support is to tackling inflation, especially in light of the recent rice tariff cuts. Lee voiced concerns that local farmers could struggle to compete with the surge of imported products. “Ang mga magsasaka natin ang unang maapektuhan,” he said, stressing that the government should prioritize policies that empower Filipino farmers as the best defense against rising food prices. Lee also noted that relying too heavily on imports is risky, as global factors like climate change and geopolitical tensions can disrupt food supply. Instead, he advocates for measures to improve local production. His Cheaper Rice Act aims to ensure farmers get fair prices, while his proposed Post-Harvest Facilities Support Act and Kadiwa Agri-Food Terminal Act focus on modernizing the sector to reduce waste, improve quality, and connect farmers directly with markets. Recently, Lee visited Bulacan to meet with farmers who shared their struggles with inadequate post-harvest facilities. He reaffirmed his commitment to securing the resources farmers need to thrive. “Winner tayo lahat kapag sinusuportahan natin ang mga magsasaka!” he added, emphasizing that increased support for farmers would improve food security, lower prices, and ultimately ease the financial burden on Filipino families. #StrengthenPHAgri #SupportOurFarmers #AGRIForThePeople Leave a Reply Cancel reply Logged in as admin_wilbertleeagriadvocacy. Cong. Wilbert Lee: Supporting Farmers is Best Solution to Curb Inflation

November 6, 2024 Cong. Wilbert Lee: Supporting Farmers is Best Solution to Curb Inflation Cong. Wilbert Manoy “Wise” Lee is urging the government to strengthen support for farmers as a sustainable solution to high inflation, especially with food prices contributing significantly to inflation rates. At a recent Kapihan sa QC forum, Lee emphasized the risks of relying solely on imported goods to address price hikes. “Ang ating mga magsasaka ang dapat laging isaalang-alang sa bawat polisiya,” he shared, noting that imported products could undermine local farmers’ livelihoods if unchecked. Lee has been a consistent advocate for Filipino farmers, proposing measures that ensure they receive fair compensation and support. His Cheaper Rice Act would mandate higher purchase prices for local palay, helping farmers stay competitive amid the influx of imported rice. Additionally, Lee has introduced bills to strengthen post-harvest facilities and market access for farmers, giving them the tools to enhance productivity and lower production costs. The solon highlighted that local farmers deserve better and that giving them support will benefit all Filipinos. As more farmers are encouraged to grow their businesses, food production will increase, which will ultimately lower prices in the market. “Kapag mas malaki ang kita ng ating mga magsasaka, tataas ang produksyon, dadami ang supply, at bababa ang presyo sa merkado,” Lee stated, believing that empowering farmers is the best way to safeguard the nation against inflation. #EmpowerFarmers #FoodSecurityPH #AGRIForThePeople Leave a Reply Cancel reply Logged in as admin_wilbertleeagriadvocacy. More Support To Local Food Producers Is Long-Term Solution To Inflation – Lee

April 23, 2024 More Support To Local Food Producers Is Long-Term Solution To Inflation – Lee AGRI Party-list Rep. Wilbert “Wise” T. Lee said on Tuesday that the government should provide more support to farmers and fisherfolk to boost local production and effectively address inflation.  The Bicolano lawmaker underscored that local food producers deserve better services from the government which should be an enabler to achieve food security and cheaper basic commodities.  Lee made the statement after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued Administrative Order (AO) No. 20 to streamline administrative procedures and policies on the importation of agricultural products and remove non-tariff barriers in a bid to secure food supply and alleviate rising domestic prices. Inflation rate in the country rose to 3.7% in March from the previous month’s 3.4% with food inflation as the main contributor to the overall inflation. The Bicolano lawmaker reiterated that the government must aggressively address factors contributing to food inflation to curb rising prices of basic goods. “As our food security soldiers, let us demand better for our farmers and fisherfolk. Addressing their needs will help them boost their production that will result to lower food prices. Lee also pointed out that importation should only come should the need arises and not be the sole solution to increasing domestic prices saying, “We haven’t even fully maximized efforts to boost our local productivity, yet we are always drawn to importation.” Lee To DA: Help Reduce Diabetes In PH By Mainstreaming Low-GI, High-Protein Rice

April 5, 2024 Lee To DA: Help Reduce Diabetes In PH By Mainstreaming Low-GI, High-Protein Rice AGRI Party-list Rep. Wilbert “Wise” T. Lee urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to partner with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to hasten the release of ultra-low glycemic index (GI) and protein-rich variety of rice to Filipino farmers. Lee said mainstreaming the production of this variety of rice would greatly aid in the reduction of diabetes mellitus cases in the country. Based on the latest data from the International Diabetes Federation of which the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is a member, out of a total adult population of 66,754,400 in the Philippines in 2021, there were a total of 4,303,899 cases of diabetes recorded, equivalent to 6.44 percent. Further, in 2023, deaths in the Philippines due to diabetes mellitus were recorded at 14,416 cases, or 6.2 percent share, making it the fourth leading cause of death in the country. The IRRI aims to introduce the ultra-low GI, high protein rice variety by 2025. The research institute said the multi-location trial for this has already been started in more than 10 provinces nationwide. Glycemic index is a ranking of carbohydrate-containing foods based on how slowly or quickly they are digested and increase blood glucose levels, with pure sugar having a score of 100. The IRRI said it expects more rice farmers to cultivate this variety once the trials determine the target market. According to IRRI scientists, the price of ultra-low GI, high protein rice will be the same as the normal rice available in the markets. Lee, a staunch health advocate, persistently pushed for the 30% increase in Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) benefits which took effect on February 14. The solon also urged PhilHealth to provide unlimited coverage for cancer treatment, heart bypass surgery, and other diagnostic tests and preventive measures, as well as the effective implementation of the No Balance Billing policy to lessen the out-of-pocket medical expenses of patients and their families.
